The Red Wings will continue their 15-year partnership with the Griffins, who won this year’s Calder Cup, the AHL championship trophy, through at least the 2021-22 season.
The Red Wings will continue to oversee the Griffins’ daily hockey operations, led by Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin. Detroit is also responsible for providing the Griffins’ playing roster through NHL-contracted players and AHL-only contracts, as well as coaching staff, equipment managers, and athletic trainers.
Additionally, the updated agreement ensures Grand Rapids will host at least one Red and White Game over the next five years. The Griffins have previously hosted four intrasquad games, the most recent in 2011.

The Griffins have qualified for the AHL’s postseason for five consecutive years, matching the longest run in franchise history, and have amassed a 225-124-14-17 regular-season record since 2012, marking the most wins by an AHL team in that timeframe.
